FEDERAL PUMP TANK FEATURES
Federal Pump Tanks are designed for residential and commercial water system use. Water and air in the tanks are completely separated, thus eliminating corrosion and water logging problems generally associated with hydro-pneumatic tanks.

The tank shells are of carbon steel construction. The flexible water chambers are easily replaceable and are approved for use with potable water. These flexible chambers are natural rubber (Type FX/FXA) and reinforced flexible nylon (Type JAPR/JBPR). The water chambers are tested for maximum operating cycles and designed for maximum draw-down capacity.

The tanks have exterior baked epoxy finish (Type FX/FXA) or red oxide prime coat (Type JAPR/JBPR). Each tank has lifting lugs, base, system connection and charge valve connection. They are generally mounted vertically and can be manifolded if additional capacity is required.

Federal Pump Tanks must be field-charged during start-up to the operating pressure range required by the job conditions.

Maximum working pressure ratings are:
TypeFX 150#
TypeFXA 125#, 175#, 200#, 250#
TypeJAPR 125#, 175#, 250#
TypeJBPR 125#, 175#, 250#

Maximum temperature ratings are:
Type FX/FXA 125°F
Type JAPR/JBPR 240°F
Type FX tanks do not carry an ASME label.
Type FXA, Type JAPR and Type JBPR tanks do carry an ASME label.

FEDERAL PUMP TANK OPERATION
At start-up, the tank should be charged to the minimum pressure of the system. As water is then pumped into the flexible water chamber, the air cushion is compressed, causing a rise in pressure in the tank. The pressure will continue to rise until the pump is shut off at the desired maximum pressure. The water is then stored under pressure until needed. As water is drawn from the tank, the pressure in the tank will decrease. Upon reaching the minimum set pressure, the pump will turn on and start the cycle over again.

The flexible water chamber acts as a barrier between the air and water in the tank, preventing any loss in the charge pressure due to absorption.
