FEATURES
MOTOR:
Fully submersible motor in cast iron housing with stainless steel shaft. Units
operate at 1750 RPM. Single phase motors are available for 115V or 230V
operation. (115V only for 1/4 HP units) and have built in overload protection.
Three phase motors are available for 1/3 HP and 1/2 HP units, rated for 230V
operation and should be provided with magnetic starters.
PUMP:
Close-coupled design with impeller locked firmly to the motor shaft. All units
have cast iron pump volutes. Impellers are plastic for 1/4 HP and 1/3 HP units
and cast iron for 1/2 HP units. Some units are available in all-bronze
construction.
POWER CORD:
Fully sealed waterproof power cord is furnished on all single phase units. The
standard cord length is 10-ft. for 1/4 HP units and 20-ft. for 1/3 HP and 1/2 HP
units. Longer power cords are available if required.
FLOAT SWITCH:
Automatic operation of the single phase pumps is provided by an integral
submersible float switch. For all three phase units and for single phase units
where non-standard float travel is required, the float switch is furnished in a
separate submersible housing for mounting on the discharge pipe of the pump.
APPLICATION:
Type P submersible sump pumps are ideally suited for a variety of applications
including elevator pits, home and industrial building sumps, loading dock areas
and effluent pits. Standard-fitted construction is suitable for most
applications.
ACCESSORIES:
A variety of accessories are available for Type P submersible sump pumps
including magnetic starters, control panels, long-travel float switches, sump
basins (cast iron or steel or fiberglass), pit covers and grouting frames for
concrete pits and high water alarms. Type P pumps can also be controlled by the
Federal Type SBS Submers-a-bulb controllers (see SBS Bulletin 263).
SUGGESTED SPECIFICATION FOR SINGLE UNIT (1/3 HP & 1/2 HP UNITS)
Furnish and install where shown on plans, a single Type P submersible sump pump
unit, as manufactured by Federal Pump Corporation. Pump to have a capacity of
____G.P.M. against a total dynamic head of ____ft. Pump to have ____N.P.T.
discharge connection and to be standard-fitted construction with submersible
sealed motor, stainless steel shaft and waterproof power
cable. Motor to be ____H.P., 1-ph., 60 cy., ____volts,
1750 RPM, with integral fully submersible float switch, for automatic control of
the pump.
Furnish a welded angle iron grouting frame and heavy steel
cover equal to Federal Type PF-1, for a concrete pit ___ins. x ___ins. x ___ins,
deep. Cover and frame to be treated with corrosion resistant coating and cover
to have openings for cable, vent connection and pump removal plate.
SUGGESTED SPECIFICATION FOR DUPLEX UNIT (1/3 HP & 1/2
HP UNITS)
Furnish and install where shown on plans, a duplex Type P submersible sump pump
unit, as manufactured by Federal Pump Corporation. Each pump to have a capacity
of ____G.P.M. against a total dynamic head of ____ft. Pumps to have ____N.P.T.
discharge connections and to be of standard-fitted construction with submersible
sealed motor, stainless steel shaft and waterproof power cable. Motors to be
____H.P., ____phase, 60 cycles, ____volts, 1750 RPM. Each pump
shall have a fully submersible float switch for mounting on the pump discharge
pipe.
Furnish a duplex pump control panel in a single NEMA-1
enclosure, including fusible disconnect switch, magnetic starter and
hand-off-automatic selector switch for each motor, and an automatic alternator
to alternate the sequence of operation of the two pumps and provide simultaneous
operation of the pumps when required.
Furnish a fiberglass (or cast iron or steel) sump
basin, ____ins. in diameter x ____ins. deep, with inlet
connection as determined by job conditions. The basin shall have a steel cover
with required openings for pump removal plates, controls and vent connection,
and shall be treated with a corrosion resistant coating.
BASIC UNIT 1/4 HP:
Cast iron construction, plastic impeller, and 10-ft. power cord.
BASIC UNIT 1/3 HP:

If all-bronze pump construction is required, consult factory.
HIGH TEMPERATURE PUMPS:
The standard maximum ambient temperature ratings for Type P pumps is 104°F
for 1/4 HP units and 130°F for 1/3 HP and 1/2 HP units. If
special-fitted pumps are required for higher ambient temperatures, consult ABC
Electric Corp.
SUBMERSIBLE SWITCH:
Separate submersible float bulb with cable and mounting bracket for mounting
on pump discharge pipe (or other mounting arrangement), for actuation of high
water alarm or control of duplex pumps through an alternator

DELIVERY LEAD TIMES:
Any modification of the standard pump unit will substantially increase the
delivery time.
QUICK-DISCONNECT UNITS:
Type P Submersible Sump Pumps can be furnished with Quick-Disconnect
fittings for easy removal from the sump pit. The fittings furnished for each
pump include (1) base elbow and QD connection, (1) lift chain and (1) top
bracket. The components that are generally furnished by others are: the pump
discharge pipe and the pump guide pipes (two guide pipes are required per pump).
Guide pipes are 3/4" schedule 40 galvanized steel. The following QD list
price addition is to be made to the basic pump list prices shown on Page P-1.
The same addition applies for 1-1/2" and 2" discharge pumps.

QD GUIDE PIPES:
Two guide pipes are required for each pump. Thus, four pipes are required
for a duplex pump set. They are generally furnished by the contractor. If they
